The New Orleans Saints have signed running back Jamaal Williams to a three-year, $12 million contract, according to a league source confirmed by The Athletic. The move comes after the Saints released veteran running back Alvin Kamara earlier this offseason.
Williams, 28, has spent the past four seasons with the Detroit Lions. He has rushed for 1,316 yards and 12 touchdowns in that time, averaging 4.5 yards per carry. He also has 107 receptions for 807 yards and four touchdowns.
The Saints are expected to use Williams as their primary running back alongside Taysom Hill. Williams is a versatile back who can run between the tackles and catch passes out of the backfield. He should be a valuable addition to an offense that is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2022 season.
